Christy Lau on the influence of her parent's emigration to the United States.

My family lived in China for most of their lives before they moved to the U.S. My parents made the decision to move to the States and leave China when they were still young adults so that they could provide more opportunities for my siblings and I.

Because of the risk they took, sometimes it gets really hard to balance school while still keeping a social life and doing the things I like to do, simply because of all the pressure I feel on me to succeed.

I feel like there are a lot of other kids who are in a similar situation, of having this pressure to succeed in the future. Even with all this, I genuinely think it's equally important to not stress over the little things and to be thankful for all the things we have in our lives. Yeah, the pressure is there, but I won't let it define my actions and limit my happiness. - Christy Lau. IG: @christy.lau
